Porsche Club Finland Magazine (1/2017) published a story about the 2011 997 GT3 RS 4.0 using the pictures of the car in Carrera Classic collection. This article (in Finnish) written by ArttuToivonen, describes the history of Porsche Limited Edition models over the years. Luxury car manufacturers have understood
already long ago the value of the Limited Edition models. Porsche started this habit gradually over the years having certain Anniversary Models with limited production runs. The history of the 997 GT3 RS is a little different. It was the last evolution version of the highly successful first and second generation 997 GT3 RS cars. The first generation 997 GT3 RS had a 3.6 liter engine and the second generation GT3 RS 3,8 liter engine. This last 997 GT3 version got a different engine directly from the 997 factory racing cars. This engine was a 4 liter “Metzer” racing engine with 500 bhp and red line at 8250 rpm. At its launch this car was seen as the best Porsche GT3 RS over time. There was a limited production run of only 600 cars and being the last “Metzer” engine car and possibly the last fully manual GT3 RS it is clear that it will have its place in Porsche history of “Limited Editions” and it can be already considered as a future classic.
