Carrera Classic had the pleasure to visit first time the most important classic race in the word. Le Mans Classic 2018 was organized on 6-8 July at the famous 38-turn, 13,6 km Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans in France. This every second year event started in 2002 and is organized by a private company, Peter Auto. The ninth edition of this event was even bigger than before. There were 135,000 visitors, 700 race cars from 1923 to 2014 with over 1,000 drivers of 30 nationalities and ten former winners of the 24 Hours race. During the non-stop action from the Friday to Sunday, the nine grids organized according to the different periods did their practice, qualifying and race sessions during the day and night.
Porsche was very visible at the event. Porsche has always been important part of the Le Mans history and this year it was also time to celebrate Porsche’s 70th anniversary. There was a special Porsche parade and different special races in addition to the actual Le Mans grids bringing amazing number of Porsches to the track. These cars were from first 356 to 550, 904, 906, 908, 910 and to tens of early 911´s from 2,0 liter Cup, not talking about the numerous 911 RS, RSR, 935, 917, 962, etc.
This year the Finnish historic racing made its own history in Le Mans by having a Finnish team participating. It is good to remember that there is every year many more cars applying than there will be finally accepted to participate. This year the team of Jukka Huhta participated to the race with a 1950 model Cadillac Series 61. The result was 33rd place out of the 72 cars in Grid 2, which is a great result.
