Our friend Ville Pekka Mäkelä proved that a classic Porsche is a good car also for a longer trip in Europe even during the winter. He had decided to drive trough Germany and Austria for a skiing trip to the well known Austrian resort of Zell am See in February 2020. His car was a 1966 model Porsche 912. He prepared the trip with Carrera Classic in December by asking us to install an additional Webasto heater to the car for the long winter trip.
The trip took them from Helsinki on a 29 hour ferry trip to Travemunde and then after a good night sleep a 700 km drive to Karlsruhe. In Karlsruhe they visited our good friends at Fraisinger Motorsport to pick up some parts. Freisinger is well known supplier of special parts of classic and racing Porsches. The 912 needed adjustment of the clutch cable and that was done at A&P Sportmotoren in Eggenstein. They got excellent service at this well recognized Porsche specialist shop.
As Ville Pekka is a keen Porsche and car enthusiast there were several visits during the trip related to the Porsche history. The trip continued to Ulm and then to Stuttgart where the main attraction was of course the Porsche Museum. Then the trip continued to Munich where they visited the BMW museum and BMW welt.
There after the trip continued to Zell am See where the weather was perfect for skiing. Even in Zell am See the hotel had a motorcycle museum with the replica of the racing bike of Jarno Saarinen. Of course the visit to the Porsche family estate and the family grave was part of the program. After the FIS Downhill World Cup race in Saalbach they turned back home. On the way they stopped at all the important historical places of German history starting from Zeppelin Field at Nurnberg to all the different sites in Berlin, including the Berlin Wall.
The whole trip took 16 days and the Porsche and the Webasto worked without any problems. In total they drove 3125 km with a average consumption of 8,4 liter/100 km.
